It is World Book Day week! The day itself is, in fact (checks notes) TOMORROW, whoops. Which means that I may have left this a little late to be useful, but never mind. Here is your helpful annual reminder that if YOU have any young persons in your household who like Mega Robo Bros, and are supposed to go to school in a costume tomorrow, but you have for ENTIRELY RELATABLE reasons not had a chance to put anything together for them, you can go to my website and find some MEGA ROBO MASKS to help you out. Print them out, bit of string, BOOM. Instant costume.
Now that my son is at an age where his school no longer insists on putting parents through this annual ordeal, WBD is mostly a thing that impacts me more professionally, in that it is a time of year that I spend in the traditional manner of authors in this country: travelling around on trains, visiting school, and - most importantly - catching colds. Catching so many colds. Hey, here’s an idea, which I offer for free to any educators or national literacy advocacy programmes who may happen to be reading: why not invite authors to your school throughout the entire year, not just this one week at the end of winter when everyone everywhere is super sick? Just spread the love of reading, and indeed the viral load, a little more widely. A humble suggestion.
Anyway! I won’t keep you, other than to shout out a couple of exciting opportunities to See Me Talk And / Or Draw Stuff that are coming your way in the near future…
Saturday 8th March! I will be at Whitstable Children’s Festival of Books, doing a comics workshop at Horsebridge Arts Centre - details and tickets here.
Monday 10th March! I will be a guest at LDComics’ monthly online session, where I will be giving a short talk about my work, my career, making a living at this nonsense, all that good stuff, and answering YOUR questions, along with these other great speakers. Free, you just need to book a spot - details and tickets here.
Sunday 23 March! My collaborator / writer / son Logan and I will both be at Yo! Comics Fair at Stanley Arts Centre in South London, where as part of the boy’s ongoing Unofficial Apprenticeship he will be running a workshop with me on the theme of Making Comics Together, and we will have a table where we will be selling copies of our BRAND NEW collaboration, an all-new comic we have made together just for the occasion, about which I will have more to say here soon. I think teh workshops are all sold out already, but if you just want to chat and see cool things and encounter a whole bunch of amazing comics creators young and old, come along! Details and tickets here.
Lots more events coming up later in the year to announce in due course but, good lord, that’s enough to be getting on with for now, isn’t it?
Take care, stock up on Lemsips, and remember - most important of all - Mega Robo Bros FINAL FORM is available in good bookshops everywhere, buy your copy now! Okay thanks bye xx
